The Lord’s Prayer #1
I find it fascinating that you can get great new insight into something you have known about for years and had almost forgotten. Recently this happened to me with the prayer we call The Lord’s Prayer. It goes like this:
Matthew 6:9 “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”
I began thinking about this when a girl at a prayer retreat asked if it was ok to pray for yourself. Intercessors pray for others and may not think of praying for themselves. I reminded her of the Lord’s Prayer and assured her Jesus told us to ask things for our self in this prayer so it is ok to pray for our self.
I had never thought of the Lord’s Prayer being a prayer that validates praying for our self.
